Florida Artist Retreat
with Drew Strouble
Ocala_National_Forest
Like stepping back in time, the Ocala National Forest offers you a rare glimpse into the unique ecosystem known as the Big Scrub. This is the region that inspired poet Sydney Lanier, author Harriet Beecher Stowe, naturalist William Bartram, artists NC Wyeth and Andrew Wyeth, nature photographer John Moran, singer-songwriter Will McLean and most notably, Pulitzer prizewinning author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. You’ll venture out from the artist’s Old Florida cottage retreat, the Stiltin’ Hilton. Hike and paint on the Yearling Trail (the actual location where Rawlings was inspired and where the movie starring Gregory Peck was made. Day trip by canoe on the Ocklawaha River and paint and photograph the water birds and wildlife. Back from your field trip, take your shoes off and relax on the front deck to watch the Forest light change as Drew fires up the grill.
